GRIEF COUNSELING IN BROOKLYN

Grief is a natural response to a loss, but it can still feel disorienting and lonely. You may notice changes in sleep, appetite, and concentration, or feel waves of strong emotions or deep numbness. Many people worry that they are “not grieving the right way,” especially when their experience does not match what cultural messages expect.

Why Work With a Grief Counselor

Grief counseling can support you through many kinds of loss, including:

  • The death of a partner, family member, or close friend

  • Losses around divorce, breakup, or separation

  • The death of a beloved pet

  • Old grief or childhood loss that is resurfacing

Individual Grief Counseling

Some people prefer to begin with individual grief counseling, especially when the loss feels very recent or difficult to talk about in front of others. In individual sessions, you have space to move at your own pace to explore the story of your loss and how it affects you.

Together, we might focus on understanding normal emotional and physical responses to grief, developing practical coping strategies, and creating small rituals or practices that help you feel connected and supported. Individual counseling can also be a helpful step before or alongside participation in a bereavement group, especially if you are unsure what kind of support is right for you now.

Bereavement Groups Through Brooklyn Bereavement

Bereavement groups are widely considered one of the most effective settings for learning to live with the loss of a loved one. In group, you have the opportunity to share your experience with others who are also grieving and to hear how different people navigate similar feelings and questions. Through Brooklyn Bereavement, I offer structured virtual group series for adults grieving the death of a loved one. Groups typically run for a set number of weeks and include time for sharing, education about the grieving process, and relaxation or Alexander Technique–based exercises to support your body while you talk about your loss.
