You are not alone if anxiety, depression, grief, relationship strain, or dissociation have taken a toll on your body. If you’ve tried to “think your way” out of these struggles without success, somatic therapy may offer a new path.

I’m a psychotherapist and certified Alexander Technique teacher with over 35 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and groups. My work is grounded in body-oriented therapy.

In our work together, you can:

  • understand how your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations influence each other

  • learn tools to regulate your emotions

  • process trauma or grief

  • begin to feel more at ease and more connected with yourself and others

My listening is organized around not only what you are saying but how you express yourself and the possible disparity between the two. For example, if you say you are sad while you are smiling, I might inquire about what the smile is expressing.  I feel that it is crucial to look at the whole person while searching for the roots of emotional and physical distress.

MY TRAINING

  • Center for Character Analytic Studies

  • Brooklyn Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis

  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

At the Center for Character Analytic Studies, I trained in methods influenced by Wilhelm Reich, a student of Freud. Reich believed the body holds energy he called orgone, which can get blocked by trauma and stress. This body-centered approach, known as Orgone Therapy, focuses on releasing tension, restoring energy, and helping people feel more connected to themselves.

Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a method of body focused relaxation and stress relief which relies upon the ability of the teacher to locate points of tension in the joints and muscles and then to point out various strategies for self soothing.  This part of my practice is separate from my psychotherapy practice, and is not covered under the major health insurance plans.  However, I am able to use my Alexander Technique training to bring a special perspective into the stress and anxiety relief work I do with my therapy clients. For more information see Alexander Technique & Psychotherapy on this site.

Providing my clients with a safe, comforting place to express their concerns and anxieties is the primary focus of my practice.  I encourage you to Contact Me so that we may discuss your particular needs and how I may be able to help.
